What is the vacuum casting ?

Vacuum casting is a manufacturing process in which a liquid polyurethane materials is injected into a silicone mold (Silicone mold : Silicone rubber is poured around the master pattern, creating a cavity and a core, the master is removed once the silicone rubber sets and leaves a void into ). Post cured in an oven, and then the desired plastic parts is removed from the mold.

This process is ideal for quickly producing high-quality plastic/rubber parts without the cost of hard tooling.

Generally, The silicone mold will cast about 10-20 parts, the polyurethane parts can be of nearly any size and shape and can also be color-matched.

Material available : PU, Silicone, Soft PU, ABS, PP, and PC.

It is also possible to create transparent, strengthened, colored and rubber parts.

How does it works ?

1

Create master pattern by CNC machining or 3D printing (additive manufacturing ), such as a SLA machine.

2

The master pattern is then encased in quick-curing liquid silicone to form a cavity within the mold, which will be used to form the polyurethane part.

3

After the mold cures, it is cut in half and the pattern is removed.

4

The cavity formed by the master pattern is then used for casting the end product. (Pour melt plastic into the cavity of silicone mold and take end part out after solidifying)

Advantages

1.Fast and low cost for low-volume production.

2.Good mold operation. The soft molds after curing are all transparent or translucent, have good tensile strength, and are easy to cut and shape.

3.Good repeatability. The silicone for molding has good fluidity for picking up surface detail before curing, and the fine structure and decoration of the master pattern can be accurately maintained with vacuum defoaming.

4.Producing high-quality, precise and consistent parts due to vacuum, heat and pressure are applied in the casting process, the polyurethane parts with strong, stable, void-free characteristic .
