Introduction to Titanium Alloys

Posted On Aug 13, 2023

The non-ferrous metal alloy composed of titanium as the metal matrix and one or several other elements is called titanium alloy. Titanium alloy products such as tubes, rods, wires, plates, and strips produced by pressure processing are called processed titanium alloys. Titanium has good pressure processing performance, but poor cutting performance. Let's take a look at the commonly used titanium alloy models and their representation methods in CNC Machining.

Introduction to Titanium Alloys

The processing of titanium and titanium alloys is generally indicated by the letter "T" plus the letter and sequence number indicating the type of metal or alloy structure. Letters A, B, and C represent α-type, β-type, and α+β-type titanium alloys respectively. There are thirteen grades TA0-TA4G, whose nominal chemical composition is industrial pure titanium; forty-two grades TA5-TA36, with different nominal chemical composition; and 16 grades TB2-TB17, with different nominal chemical compositions; There are twenty-nine grades TC1-TC32, with different nominal chemical compositions. For example, the nominal chemical composition of titanium alloy grade TA5 is Ti-4Al-0.005B, the nominal chemical composition of titanium alloy grade TB6 is Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al, and the nominal chemical composition of titanium alloy grade TC4 (corresponding to GR5 in UNS) is Ti-6Al-4V, and Ti-6Al-4V (TC4) is a titanium alloy grade commonly used in CNC Machining. The titanium alloy grades TA1 and TA2 correspond to GR1 (Grade1) and GR2 (Grade2) in UNS respectively, and are mainly used for stamping parts and corrosion-resistant structural parts that require good plasticity, such as aircraft frames and engine accessories.
